The Designed Edge exists to make clinical reasoning visible. These are the rules it holds itself to. They are written down so that a reader can check the work against them.

Independence

Nothing published here is sponsored, and no manufacturer, laboratory, distributor, or professional organisation pays for placement, review, or mention. There are no affiliate links. No treatment recommendation on this site has been bought by anyone. Where a commercial relationship exists in any form, it is disclosed on the piece itself.

Sourcing

Claims about what the evidence shows are tied to named sources a reader can open. Where a claim rests on a single study, the piece says so. Where it rests on consensus rather than trial data, the piece says that too. Reviews carry their search strategy so the reader can see what was looked for and what was not.

Uncertainty

Every review includes a section on where the evidence is weak. That section is not a formality. In dentistry a great deal of ordinary practice rests on reasoning rather than trials, and pretending otherwise does the reader no favours. When the honest answer is that we do not know, the piece says we do not know.

Review

Each review states who prepared it and how it was checked. Work that has not been read by an independent reviewer is labelled an author-reviewed evidence synthesis or editorial review. Nothing on this site is described as peer reviewed unless an independent reviewer actually reviewed it.

Separation from clinical care

This publication is general professional education. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or advice about any individual patient. Readers remain responsible for their own clinical judgment and for the care of the people in front of them.

Corrections

Errors are corrected in the open and logged, not quietly edited away. The corrections policy explains how.
